Just to clarify, the proposal would see Marston's reduced to a pubco, but also owning 40% of the new brewing company, which would take over the 6 Marston's breweries and Carlsberg Northampton (and London Fields). The small print appears to give them the right to sell out to Carlsberg in the future, or to anyone after 10 years. A worrying part is that the new brewing co would gain 'exclusive rights' to distribute to Marston's pub portfolio. There is a throw-away line about continuing to distribute 'third party beer brands' but this looks likely to be the international licensed stuff.

The key reason seems to be the chance to pay off some of their (Marston's) debt mountain. Usual provisos of shareholders' and monopolies approval apply.
On leaving the bar, I felt a strong blow to the back of my head. Turning round, I discovered it was the pavement

So, when the music stopped, the parcel marked 'Youngs' was in the lap of some chap from Copenhagen?

......"synergies and productivity " could mean the bean counters taking a hard, unsympathetic look at the few interesting brews left in the "portfolio" such as Old Empire,Owd Roger,49er,Old Thumper and Cocker Hoop.

Much less choice for lager drinkers at Marston's pubco however doesn't worry me,I'm a bitter man.

Maybe Marstons have realised nobody likes our shit beers and its time to get out.Cant see much future for low selling niche beers.I personally avoid Marstons beers other than Old Empire in Tesco,s .Rarely touch their stuff in the pubs its bland.Surprised that Marstons have the minority share.
