    It's not so much about the pub for me rather than the underhanded and cynical manner of its destruction, it's that that needs to be dealt with first and foremost.

    Of course there are more important issues in the world, but the reason why the couple who bought it destroyed it, is because its removal more easily facilitated access to their other business concerns; the pub was a geographical obstacle. And why should something from which so many people derived so much enjoyment '...have met its destiny decades ago.'?

    May or may not be true, Marstons sold it along with a vast portfolio of pubs for a quick cash injection last year - that included some very profitable and desirable pubs. If I remember correctly the last landlord said it had been doing okay towards the end.
