There is a confusion in that East Croydon to Brighton trains are generally Thameslink, while to Hove is Southern and they charge fares on a different basis, but I can't see how you get a £12 Hove one?
It gets even more confusing (and expensive) if you change onto a Gatwick Express train to Brighton, yet the stupid thing is that they are all run by the same company!
