Superb!
A quick glance didn't tell me, but does anyone know how old Martin is? Also did he do the current GBG (seems to be 4501 pubs?) in 11 months? Unbelievable. What a guy!
That's serious pub ticking.
I don't follow his blog, but just scanning down the day he completed his task it seems he has visited 14,000 pubs in 28 years, quite a feat at an avarage of around 500 pubs every year over that period. His spreadsheets must be impressive.
It's also an interesting challenge with the 2023 GBG likely to drop through letter boxes shortly.I suppose he first needs to list new entries for 2023,then work out if he has visited those pub in the past which will then leave him with a hit list in order to maintain his achievement.
I guess he visits a lot of new micropubs, which seems to be a category of pub that make up a lot of the new entries. Not the easiest places to get hold of Bass.

No, I believe the accepted technique is to carry forward your ticks from previous years, and it's also acceptable to spot possible new entries and do a pre-emptive tick. (On the other hand, if you fail to tick a pub during the currency of a beer guide, and it then drops out in subsequent years, you're not obliged to go back and do it!)
Yes, that's about right. He retired from his job in the NHS in his early 50s - lucky guy!
He told me he wasn't really into pubs and beer until he met his wife, Christine! She really likes her beer...

What's the insurance and risk assessment going to cost on that?
It's part of a chain as well.
