I've seen it a few times when on duty as a volunteer lock keeper on the Regents Canal. (No involvement from me,honest guv !). The canal close to the bank is shallow enough to stand up,but the silt does get into footware and socks.I assist in retrieving the bike with a grappling hook, not ideal from the cyclists point of view but needs must.

When boating I also saw a young lad drive a moped from the towpath into the River Kennet in Reading. He hopped off just before it sank to the depths. He didn't appeciate the laughter from the crew.

A couple of years ago I did some volunteer commentary for a narrowboat tour in the Regents as part of Islington Canal Week at the Wenlock Basin (any excuse to visit eponymous pub nearby).

The canal can be a danger to some. If you fall in, I don't know how you get out as there are no ladders and on a cold night, hypothermia can set in.

He may well be right but that will be good for his company Youngs in the long run if they survive which I am sure they will.

On leaving the bar, I felt a strong blow to the back of my head. Turning round, I discovered it was the pavement
