That said it no longer shocks me to be charged nearer £5.00 in other places.
The Union Tavern £4.30 a pint seemingly in October 2017, but several recent trips have delivered pints at just sub-£4.00 prices yet this pub is in an increasingly very expensive area. Nice pub too.
A recent trip to Tapping the Admiral delivered several pints at sub-£4.00 prices and that was without a CAMRA card - one of the reasons why I like it so much.

The price a pub charges doesn't just reflect the price the landlord paid for the beer but includes overheads.Same goes for us buying the beer.I used to spent £20 +a week on fares while ticking beers around London.I have for the past 5 years had free travel so a £4.50 a pint is my total cost.Maybe you can get £3 a pint in the East Midlands but add the travel costs and you are paying £5 a pint.Nice for locals but not for travellers

The Union Tavern is a nice pub owned by Fullers so it pisses me off to hear they have beer at that price .I have paid £5 +a pint in two local Fullers pubs before Christmas and also up the city a few weeks ago.

The advance railcard return fare to Wolverhampton now comes to £11.20. Great Western prices are Mild £2.65, Bitter £2.70 and Special £2.95. Guests are £3.00 to £3.40. Batham's pub prices are £2.45(?) Mild and £2.85 Best. Lych Gate (BCA) prices are £3.00 to £3.40 for guests. I reckon I almost make up the rail fare cost by going there rather than having an extended session in the only two local pubs I use and neither opens before midday. Compared to central or inner London then it saves me money going there. There's no question of that and I'm not ending up paying anything like £5.00 a pint.
The East Midlands might be a different matter as the trains are expensive.

    Depends how much you drink.

I'm there for about 7 hours so it isn't just a couple of pints!

I wasn't meaning specific pubs but generally that if you include travel etc its not such a bargain.Like Moby said I also know pubs up London where you can get beers for £4 ish but don't want to be restricted to where I drink based on cost but am def avoiding rip off pubs where I can.

An additional service not mentioned in the entry for this pub
