    There's certainly a business opportunity for supermarkets in Carlisle and Berwick upon Tweed not to mention all the small shops in other border towns. I'm sure we'll see the return of the white van full of booze trawling the back streets of the central belt.

    The best comment I've heard so far was the old Russian joke;

    "Father not vodka has gone up in price will you drink less?"
    "No son, you'll eat less"

    I think this will mean minimum pricing coming in sooner rather than later in England.
    It would certainly affect the pint of Broughton Old Jock I found last year for £1.29 in the Irvine JDW.

    Does anyone know where the increased prices go? I would hope it's to the retailer but I could foresee a government jacking up excise duty to take it away from them which would clobber pubs something rotten.

    "The move is not a tax or duty increase. It is a price hike for the cheapest drink, with any extra cash going to the retailer." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-41981909

    The only one from that cask list that I would voluntarily try is Landlord and that would have to be in a Taylor's tied house. It's too pathetic for words and the other lists are just as bad.

    It's such a shame that these high volume beers are in general so poor (IMHO).Many young folk trying out real ale for the first time may well sample something from this list and that could put them off for life.

    Craft keg may well then fill the void.

    I have to agree. The power of marketing.
