Local barman and Camra member Jock Mc Spock refuted the claims of filthy beer. Its that London murky that's giving us a bad name.We clean the pipes every couple of months whether they need it or not.
"It came bottom of the list for well-served drinks, closely followed by Hereford, Plymouth, Andover and Swindon."
I've had some good pints of Carling in Swindon, which must be twice as hard to keep as a half of ale, so if they can keep lager in shit pubs then ale must be a sinch...
Anyone know Coventry?

I tend to pop into Cov every other year, the canal basin is very close to the city centre. Not been in any of the 'spoons mentioned ,but been in four of the others (Town Wall Tavern,Gatehouse,Old Windmill and Whitefriars ) which are decent without being outstanding IMHO.Might now tick off the other three (Establishment,Castle Grounds,Drapers) on the next visit.

I certainly don't "know" it but I went there for the first time ever last year. As a city I expected it to be a right dump but was pleasantly surprised to find some old buildings that had survived the bombs and some pedestrianized areas. Of the three Spoons listed the Spon Gate is a modern Lloyds with poor beer on my visit, the other two were fairly reasonable city centre JDWs. I really liked the Whitefriars but judging by other reviews I may have caught it on a good day. I thought the JDW City Arms at Earlsdon was the best of the four in Coventry. I would return if a micropub or two opened but otherwise probably wouldn't bother. The Spon Gate seems to have no Lloyds branding but the late opening Thu-Sat gives it away.
