A similar thing happened at White Hart Lane against Wigan the other week. There were players in Spurs kits and latex masks but it was obvious by their quality that they were fakes.

The spread of Halal meat is further than you think.

I can understand the practice on religious grounds by local butchers for a local community. It seems now you get it without any choice. This country has over the years brought in laws and practices which try to be as humane as possible to the animal being slaughtered. Some of you may disagree , that is your right. These are now being flouted by large companies providing food in retail premises. Why do Whitbread and Mitchell & Butlers need to do this. I bet you chicken processed in a country such as Turkey is a lot cheaper than European products.

Why would a pub which sells alcohol - and therefore objectionable to Muslims for that reason - need to sell Halal meat anyway? They seem to be catering for a double standard at best or practising hypocracy at worst.

I am not a vegetarian, I enjoy good, wholesome meat, but I would rather go without than condone inhumane practices.

I remember once hearing that Halal meat was actually more humane, which I can strangely believe, although I doubt it is true when applied to factory quantities.

Basically, because it's cheaper to procure. As long as it's legal, large chains will buy the cheapest option open to them, 90% of the time.

After all, does the person eating the meat at the chain's end taste any difference? Unlikely...

Stick to pork, at least that will not be halal or kosher slaughtered

Mind you the pig killing may have been humane, the rearing probably was not
