"At that moment I would have given a kingdom, not for champagne or hock and soda, or hot coffee but for a glass of beer" Marquess Curzon of Kedlestone, Viceroy of India.
Short list but all worthy of BOTW:
Oakham Bishops Farewell*
Little Brewing Company Taj*
Byatts Maibock*
Vale Gravitas*
BOTW Byatts Maibock. A 5.5%, beautifully balanced, German ale. Another winner from Byatts.
"Beer is food." Morse, Colin Dexter
More Neck Oil and little cask for exploring the watering holes of Tooting, but a mini-fest of Oakham's beers at Islington's White Swan made up for something:
Beerblefish + Werewolf - Maple Tooth Tiger **½
Oakham - Bite the Bullet **
Oakham - Citra **½
Oakham - Mompesson’s Gold *¾
Oakham - Hawse Buckler *¾
Thornbridge - Lord Maximus **¾
Twickenham - Naked Ladies **¾
Not a brilliant drink, but sometimes the surroundings just add something else, so BOTW goes to Five Points - XPA **¾ at The Pride of Spitalfields last night.
Wakefield.
Fernandes - Mosaic.*
Fernandes - Luis Fernandes Porter.
Ossett - Citra.*
Fernandes - Voodoo Stout.
Fernandes - Citragen.*
Runaway - American Brown Ale.
Squawk - Sylvia.
Chin Chin - Still the Beats Bang.*
Another satisfying week, with several pale beers very good indeed. The winner is a big-hitting West coast IPA (5.6%). Taken in Luis Bar @ Fernandes.
