Always a controversial one, and another old chestnut - personally I don't like unruly brats, but I don't have a problem with well-behaved children eating in dining room or garden area. I don't think the bar counter is a place for them though.

It's difficult, because if you wait until they start misbehaving it's hard to sort it out, so I can see why a ban on younger children would make sense. She's still allowing under-12s on Sundays, so it's not a complete ban. I think she's doing the best she can in the circumstances.

"Hundreds of parents have now branded the policy as "inconsiderate" and "ridiculous" online as they've vowed to take their business somewhere else." - no mention of some bloody inconsiderate parents who allow their feral brats to run wild or bring screaming babies to pubs. Good on this landlady I say.

I have to agree, there are pubs where it’s not unreasonable to allow kids in, there are others where it’s a total non-starter, leave it up to the licensee is the best way. It used be that no under 18s we’re allowed on licensed premises apart from some food related exceptions, then we had ridiculous children’s certificates - all stupid, complicated and unworkable hence leave it the licensee. In this case it appears to be a combination of Covid rules and some typically entitled arseholes spoiling it for the majority.

One has to ask how many of these “hundreds” of keyboard warriors actually used the pub anyway? IIRC Winsor is a tiny place between the sprawl of the Test waterside and the New Forest proper. I think I bought a car off a bloke there once.

I think she is and fair play to her.

More Yorkshire news: there's a nasty rumour that Mr Humphrey has been sectioned.

For want of a more appropriate thread, I just went through the very long list of pubs on IOW and was very frustrated that after clicking on a pub's link, then 'back', the view of the list did not return to the place I had been at, necessitating lots of scrolling down to find the same area in the list again. Most annoying as there were so many pages of listed pubs.

Thanks, btw, to Pangolin and ETA for recommendations on the other thread. I was actually very surprised to find another 15 from these good pages (cross-referenced with whatpub) to send to the visitor.
