    Default Greene King

Word is Greene King has been sold to a Hong Kong real estate "giant" CKA, registered in the Cayman Islands.

Best quote so far, "Can't believe Green King have sold out, ugh never drinking any of their beer again." (Kat Sewell

I doubt if the takeover will make their beer taste any better

If you're in CMIC you'll be pleased, about 10% of the fund is GK shares.

Possibly not that pleased, because today's eye-catching 50%+ premium just brings the shares back to where they were about three years ago!

CK Asset Holdings is a subsidiary of CK Hutchison Holdings, the Hong Kong based multinational registered, as you say, in the Cayman Islands.

This puts the brewery in the same conglomerate as 3 (mobile 'phones), Eversholt (trains, as one of the big three Roscos), UK Power Networks, Northern Gas Networks and Northumbrian Water Group (utilities), Harwich and Felixstowe (docks) and Superdrug!

I caught the end of this story on BBC news not realising they were talking about GK. In the unlikely scenario that I haven't miscounted the zeroes, I make that an average of a million per pub with the brewery and probably loads of Bury St Edmunds land coming free. In the past these sort of takeovers have resulted in brewery closure so you have to wonder what the future is for GK & Fullers breweries.

I doubt there's enough slack in the industry to make up for a closure of BSE without building a new plant somewhere else. In any case they're a property company and will want rid of the brewing side as soon as is decently possible. I suspect the vultures (Heineken et al) are circling as we speak.

I didn't know Fuller's had sold out to Asahi - explains why Pride is now undrinkable.

I cant comment on the taste of Pride but it is still brewed in Chiswick on the same plant,by the same brewers using the same recipe and ingredients.

Without the tied pubs the brewery is worthless. The free trade would never buy GK crap.
