"Further down the list are that a pub should serve real ale, host live music and have background music, and host pub quizzes."
So 35% of respondents think a pub should have background music. Why don't they ask pub users whether they prefer NO background music?
I walked out of a very nice country pub the other day, even though it was getting dark and cold outside, because of the ghastly, unavoidable pop music being pumped out of loudspeakers in every corner. When the landlady served me a bottle to take out, as I couldn't stand it any more, she started singing along. Grrr.
(Appropriately, the song was Can't Get You Out of My Head. Grrr again.)
