And he writes of 'Added to this, many pubs seem to have taken an unsympathetic and over-zealous approach to applying the regulations.'. He should have passed The Salmon & Ball during the England matches - people packed in like sardines and with the doors open, I don't believe the police didn't spot what was going on.
Ominous news.
And a lot of hot air at The Nags Head.

Youngs gets rid of tenanted pubs to Punch. Not sure of that is a good thing or not - Punch can be pretty poor but Youngs have been wrecking good boozers in recent times. I do feel sorry for the publicans though.
On leaving the bar, I felt a strong blow to the back of my head. Turning round, I discovered it was the pavement
Perhaps a bit out of the frying pan, into the fire, but on balance I think I prefer Young's/Ram pubs to Punch.
On another note, I hope that all this 'Hygiene Theatre' bollix will end for good next Monday.
The Duchess Of York to be revived (sort of).
Revived online? How does that work?
For what it's worth, I only went there once though I lived in Leeds from 1985 to 1997. I went to the Duchess in 1994 when the Groundhogs had a gig there. I really liked the Groundhogs in the 1970s, their albums Thank Christ for the Bomb and Split were classics that I still play today. I saw them play at Watford Town Hall and Hemel Hempstead Pavilion in the early 70s, and damaged my ears by standing close to the speakers at the former venue. At the Duchess the sound system was cranked up way too high for a small pub, and I damaged my ears again. I've now got permanent tinnitus which I reckon can be attributed to the Groundhogs, but I still really like those two albums from 1970 & 1971 (Hogwash and Solid were pretty good too, from about 1974 I think).
Can't remember anything about the beer. Tetleys?
