I took in the Black Swan on my way from Hawes to Helmsley. It was a Monday afternoon, just after 3, but the place was open. No sign of any hand pumps or fonts, but I enquired of the young woman who greeted me if it was ok to have just a beer. She replied in the affirmative and asked me to take a seat and she would come to take my order. Uh-oh, I thought, this is a restaurant, not a pub.

She approached me and asked if I was ready to make my choice. Is there no draught beer, I enquired? No, she said, it's a restaurant not a pub. What a shame, quoth I, that means I'll have to delete it from Pubs Galore, the well-known pubs website. (Not really.)

I have marked it as closed, though.

Just as well by the sounds of it.

I go through Euston a lot but won't be bothering with this. They've got their work cut out as it has to be the ugliest of the London termini, although for me they've ruined St Pancras by cramming in four different stations on two levels.
As for Liverpool Street I'll stick to the occasional visit to the Spoons. I don't actually go through it a lot considering it's my local terminus.

I think the quote within the article about pubs needing to up their game to compete is spot on, 3 pumps of boring brown beer and lack lustre lager will not do

Hear Hear! That's without even thinking about the rip off prices. As usual Mr Mullet is coming out with his idiotic argument about zero VAT on food that you have to take home and cook yourself. What a plank! He should take a look at the crap beer choice in the Wanstead George today, one unused, the Trio Of Doom, GK IPA, Ringwood Fortyniner, Spitfire, Young's Special, Bombardier, Nethergate IPA, London Pride and Adnams Broadside. A shocking choice and by far the worst I've ever seen there. The three tins of Uprising Treason IPA for a fiver came in handy.

Could increase the demand for skunk? Or home brew kits? Or bootleggers from Carisle?
