Firstly may I say how shocked and disgusted I am with the distruction of The Crooked House. I am shocked at the blatant actions of those responsible for the fire. I personally am prepared to boycott all Marston pubs in the wake of this awful event. I know this will not bring the pub back, but it will send a message to any of these pub companies that are thinking of doing the same thing.
There was a feature on our local news tonight about the pub. Many people are demanding that the pub be rebuilt brick by brick. It has been done before.
Just to clarify a point, I do not think Marstons are personally involved in burning down the pub, but they sold it off without a thought as to what would happen to it afterwards.

Yup. It has been done before (see photos).
This evening the BBC said the building was up for listing (just like the Carlton) and that the police are treating the fire as arson. Given the developer bulldozed the site prior to a fire assessment being undertaken, it's highly unlikely the insurance company will pay out which is some comfort.
It’s now making national news and being pinged to half the country’s phones via BBC Breaking News! If it draws more attention and outrage to the ridiculous ‘arson’ planning loophole, that can only be a good thing. The Carlton was a game changer and this could be another.
Interesting quote RE: Marstons…
Mrs Taylor's husband, Adam Taylor, is a shareholder and former director of Himley Environmental Ltd, which runs a landfill site next to the pub... the purchase was 'all about access' and followed disagreements between the firm and Marston's over an access road to the pub which they shared.
So they knowingly sold it to a hostile business who clearly had no intention of keeping the pub.
I don't like Marston's beers at the best of times, but perhaps they are in deep: 61 Deep.
In the meantime, this would make Humphrey proud.
Agreed, let's hope the quality can be maintained by the incoming team - not an easy ask though!
Btw, that was our meeting point for a stag/pub crawl in '09 - 18 or so of us but, as we arrived in smaller groups and were mostly in or approaching our 50s, I guess we managed to evade that rule.
It seems that the owner of The Crooked House, has previous form.
