Never heard such twaddle. Made all the worse due to it being one of my top three session beers.
As is often the case, context is everything. Once you know about the statues and their history, it does seem rather pathetic. Out of interest, I asked my 26 year old daughter whether she found it offensive and she said absolutely not. Furthermore, she said wasn't really interested in what a middle aged man had to say on the subject and witheringly described his taking offence as a little suspicious!
