I had seen loads of small local gigs, mainly at JB's in Dudley but I think my first proper gig could have been Frankie Goes To Hollywood at the NEC in January 1987. I was 16 and still at school. I saw quite a few bands that year - The Mission, The Cult etc.

I'm Quite envious of my mate who saw Bowie And The Spiders From Mars in the early 70s, I did catch him in 82, but that's a totally different thing.

In my book Hunky Dory was miles better than Ziggy but only achieved notable acclaim after Ziggy catapulted him into the mainstream.
I don't think I ever saw him live which is surprising as he wasn't really that big when I was going to gigs.
