I've got a couple of stouts/porters bought at my local beer specialist offy for tonight, although I'm starting with a Kolsch. Later in the week it's the remains of a German Mixed Case plus a couple of Belgians bought from Beerhawk then I'll be back on my favourite Roosters Yankee/Baby Faced Assassin sessions. Not sure where my next delivery will come from, possibly some mini-kegs from Rudgate or Turning Point cans especially if they have one of their stouts available. Still toying with the idea of a beery Advent Calendar.

I wouldn't have thought the Duchess would find favour in the Hatter household, very much an acquired taste.

New England IPA's and big Porters and Stouts are definitely my thing at the moment, drinking a Northern Monk Scafell as I write , a comparative baby at 6.5%, maybe moving on to a 9.0%
BrewDog/Evil Twin Roaster Coaster a bit later.

I have a little go at sour beers from time to time, and I've had this one from my local beer shop before. The last time I bought a gueuze from the Dram Shop (back in May, according to my records) it was rather bland - apart from being sour, obviously. I haven't had a Duchesse de Bourgogne this year yet, so I'll let you know how I get on.

Had one of those the night before last. Flew down far too quickly for a 6.5%. Unfortunately I only had the one can but at least I was semi functional yesterday and that's as good as it gets!

After a bit of Googling I found M&M Wine and Food Co, based in Hipperholme near Halifax, where I found 50cl bottles for £2.49. Delivery was slightly steep at £9.99 for up to 15 bottles. I bought nine of the 1872, plus two each of the local Little Valley brewery's Dark Vale 4.5% and Stoodley Stout 4.8% for £2.09 each, as well as Duchesse de Bourgogne 6.2% which was £3.09 for 33cl bottles. The website of the shop was a little awkward to navigate, the worst fault being that you could click on a beer you fancy only to find out (after the page loaded up v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y) that it was out of stock. How about greying out the icon, guys?
Been wanting to try Elland 1872 Porter for some time after reading a couple of years ago that it'd won awards, so you've spurred me to order a couple of bottles. Having used the same site as you did to do so (M&M Food & Wine), I certainly echo your frustrations in terms of selecting a beer only to find out it was out of stock.

While Googling an imperial stout in the same session, I found Beer Sniffers, which had a similar problem with their brewery list - for instance, they had a listing for York Brewery but no beers once you clicked through. Admittedly the process was a lot quicker on this website, and when I started ordering I noticed that the delivery charge of £4.95 was waived for orders over £50. I'm afraid I overindulged, buying two bottles each of beers from Sam Smiths (Stingo 8.0% 55cl £4.85 and Imperial Stout 7.0% 355ml £2.18), Hook Norton (Old Hooky 4.6% and Twelve Days 5.5%).
My local Co-Op usually stocks bottles of Hook Norton beers and they've just started to get Twelve Days in stock, so I'm a happy man at the moment I read on here last year that some of the Sam Smith's outlets were stocking Stingo on cask last Christmas. I was dipping in and out of London for business, but never got anywhere near a Sam's to try it out.

Like Moby, I've very much enjoyed the crafty pale ales and IPAs this year, but now the clocks have gone back and the temperatures have dropped the colour of beer I want to drink has darkened.

I'm in much the same boat ,but this is where my local Tesco is a let down.Apart from the Roaster Coaster there are no other dark ales among a sea of strong and decent Pales and IPAs

It's one of my favourite beers in a pub, and it's pretty good in the bottle too. I had my first one of this new batch last night, and initially it was a bit too gassy for my taste. I gave it a bit of a swirl, which seemed to help. It seemed to get better over time too, I guess by losing the carbon dioxide as it sat there waiting for me to have another sip!

I also had a Westmalle Tripel in my new Westmalle chalice. I wouldn't suggest that a beer tastes better in a glass with its name on it, but it certainly looked good.

Drinking Magic Rock (not monk) out of a BrewDog glass right now, still tastes damn good.
