This year Huddersfield Food & Drink Festival runs between the 12th and 15th August in St Georges Square and promises to be an even bigger and better event than previously. At the festival itself we are promised real ale bars from the Star and the Sportsman, along with Elland Brewery (I believe), along with a vast array of food from various local restaurants that will cover all tastes from the Indian to the Caribbean, from Italian to English, with all the usual side attractions and stalls. It is an event not to be missed.

This year, however, there will be something different for the real ale hunter. Sam, at the Star, in conjunction with the festival committee, has organised a 'Real Ale Trail'. It covers 8 town centre pubs, (from North to South; The Sportsman, The Vulcan, The Kings Head, The Head of Steam, The County, The Grove, The Rat & Ratchet, and The Star) and entitles you to a free festival glass. All one has to do is visit one of the pubs and collect a festival flyer, get a pint or half of real ale, and get the flyer stamped, and do this at all 8 pubs. Return your completed flyer to the Festival Information Centre and collect your glass.

The 'Trail' starts before the festival itself, running from the 26th July until the end of the festival so what are you waiting for. Get your flyer, and get out and about in the good pubs that the Town has to offer. And just to whet your appetite there is a rumour that Mallinsons will be providing beer for each of the pubs on the 'Trail' so things just get better.

All the information you need is on the 'Huddersfield Food & Drink Festival' facebook page.
