    Default Solihull

Taking a trip there for work, but seminar finishes at 3.30pm. Any recommendations...

Presumably you're on the train? It's very humdrum, lots of chains, typical suburban centre really. If you want a quick one the JDW will do, otherwise I'd hop on the train to Birmingham, it's all of ten minutes and the world is your oyster.

Thanks, I know Birmingham fairly well and was partly expecting that!

As Nick says it is fairly standard and the spoons is the obvious choice although the The Flute & Flagon next door is probably as good.

Not sure if you into "craft" but if you fancy something a little different the Tap & Tandoor might be worth a visit. I liked it when I called in.

I've nothing much to add to this. There is a second JDW on the outskirts of Solihull in a place called Shirley (Shirley Shome Mishtake?) that is only worth the effort unless you're trying to visit them all. Check the micropub list as there is something on the next stop North from Solihull. Otherwise that Thornbridge outlet near the Brum Wellington might be open by then.

Most of Solihull's best pubs are on the outskirts. The villlage of Knowle has The Ale Rooms, a micro that won Solihull POTY last year, and also a nice traditional (although windowless) pub in the Vaults. The Bull's Head in Barston is an excellent traditional countryside survivor, but you'd need to fancy the walk to get there...

I've read that the Indian Brewery has just opened so I think that'll be my first visit.

Indian Brewery was very good, in a town that could certainly handle more good beer. The next door Wetherspoons was packed at 3:30 on a Thursday.
