Default Free cheesburge & chips at Yates'

OK, may not suit all tastes or palates, and perhaps Yates' is not for you

However, if after the obligatory four pints you are a bit peckish for a gristleburger, here is a free one

"To thank you for joining us, we'll give you a FREE Cheeseburger and chips. After that, you'll be in the loop about our exclusive offers, promotions, competitions, giveaways, celebrity openings... the list goes on!"

My Portsmouth Yates' had it's licence withdrawn due to murders & mayhem, so that is me off the hook

I signed up with them a few weeks back but I haven't used my free burger and chips voucher yet. I have to say I am not a great fan of Yates's and I don't really miss the one in Brum which closed a few years back. Having said that I did pop in from time to time for a draught Budweiser.
It was right opposite the courts.
I will go in the one at Coventry next week for a free dinner during my pub crawl. More money for beer that way !!!

Must be something about their catchment area - the one in Cardiff used to be opposite the probation service offices, and the one in Aylesbury used to be by the back doors to the courts.. The two in Liverpool are well.. in Liverpool!

I guess someone knows their target market

The Yates in Bicester is opposite an Evangelical Church.Me and the mrs used to go for a Sunday Lunch and a cheap bottle of wine. Not a bad experience at all during the day for us older crumblies.

We used to seek them out when they were Yate's Wine Lodges with Bosley Beef Sandwiches and Blobs and draught 'Champagne' 'and all the rest of it. Then their corporate bean counters trashed all of that tradition in favour of routine vertical drinking emporia. They're alright lunchtime as you say but you could be anywhere really.

Can anybody else remember visiting the old style lodges and ordering 'docks' of Australian* red wine, from the barrel? Seriously nasty stuff, guaranteed to make you heave your guts up. It was the vinous equivalent of having a vindaloo to impress your mates. (*These were the days before the Aussie wine making revolution in the early eighties)
