Only Shipyard and Ossett Excelsior this weekend, in Norton Wetherspoons the Highland Laddie. It'll have to be the Shipyard as the Excelsior wasn't well kept.

Having endured a difficult week that has turned out positive, I managed a few beers in a few locations mostly in London.

    Gloucester Cascade
    Five Points Pale
    Redemption Hopspur
    Crouch Vale Brewers Gold
    St Austell Proper Job
By The Horns Stiff Upper Lip
    Navigation Rebel
    Castle Rock Harvest Pale
    Essex Street Inner City Stout

The Inner City Stout was pretty good in The Temple Brewhouse midweek, but BOTW is Navigation Rebel, hazy, juicy and full of my favourite Citra hops, taken a little nearer home this afternoon in The Alfred

A not very productive vist to Wigan this week where rubbish weather put off a visit to Chorley :-

    Theakston's Mild (keg) 3.5%
    Bowland Gold 3.8%
    Great Newsome Sleck Dust 3.8%
    Young's London Gold 4.0%
    Holt's Bitter 4.0%
    Abbeydale Deception 4.1%*
    Martland Mill D-Day Dodger 4.1%
    Martland Mill Wobbly Weaver 4.3%
    Peerless Boston Red 4.5%
    Weetwood Old Dog 4.5%
    Wild Beer Saaz Trek 4.8%*
    Coach House Blueberry 5.0%
    Salopian Disintegration 5.1%*
    Three Bs Shuttle Ale 5.2%
    Neptune Atlantic Ridge 5.5%*
    Peerless Full Whack 6.0%
    Tyne Bank Vesuvius 6.0%*

The starred beers were all tried in the brilliant Wigan Central pub on an extended visit and prove what a vast difference a decent pub makes, The winner is the Tyne Bank Vesuvius which is described as a Neapolitan Chocolate, Vanilla & Strawberry beer (£3.50 discounted). The reality is that it's a good strong porter with subtle hints of the three flavours mentioned. The beer purists will be having convulsions so I will mention that the runner up is the Abbeydale Deception (£2.90 discounted) which was an excellent well hopped NZ Pale.

Blue Bee - Peach Milkshake Pale.
    Northern Monk - Northern Star.
    Rat - White Rat.*
    Rat - Mother Rat.
    Empire - Rim Tickler.*
    Great Heck - Dave.
    Five Towns - Nowt.
    Chin Chin - Interstate.
North Riding - US Session Pale v42.*

Fairly quiet week for me. Some very decent pale beers, with the White Rat and US Pale being particularly good. The former just steals it.

    Small list but decent quality:

    Adnams Ghost Ship
    Brancaster Oystercatcher*
    Beavertown Gamma Ray (keg)
    Oakham Bishops Farewell*
    Hop Back Summer Lightening*

BOTW goes to Brancaster Oystercatcher from a fresh barrel in top nick.

    On holiday.

Banks (Barbados) -- Caribbean Lager (keg)
    10 Saints (Barbados) -- 10 Saints (bottles)
Carib Brewery (T&T) -- Carib Lager (keg)

Nothing too exciting but all were thirst quenching with the rum barrel aged 10 Saintsmaking BOTW by a short head in various bars.

Next week boating through Milton Keynes,a case of from the sublime to the ridiculous .
