RIP Alan, a true legend lost. There's one in the pump from me for you. John Smith's smooth crap obviously.

When circumstances dictate a quick John Smith's smooth crap (which does happen from time to time) I shall always remember Alan for his reviews, photographs, blog and general appreciation of pubs of all sorts. A legend indeed.

Yes indeed. On this site he had over 6,000 reviews and a similar number of pubs photographed: a massive contribution.

Pub Curmudgeon has posted a link to Alan's assessment of craft beer that wound up so many crafties.

Sad news. I do hope, as is alluded to by his family, his work (for want of a better word) is preserved in a more formal way.

RIP Alan. So much history captured in his reviews over the years. And the "full Winfield" is now something of a target (but not sure if it will ever be achieved).
