    My first pint after reading this sad news was in The Plough Inn which appropriately enough Alan had summed up in his own inimitable style - “The Plough Inn looked like a pretty grim pub from the outside,so i could not wait to go inside to see how bad it was.”

    As I mentioned earlier I'm sure if we had actually met we would have fond we had a lot more in common than he suspected, although a fascination with run down estate pubs wouldn't be included. Such a shame, I'm sure he was a fair bit younger than me.

    Alan mentioned in one of the comments on the above posted craft rant blog entry that he was 55, which makes his passing even more sad , as that is no age nowadays.....

    I did a small 'Winfield' at Hull yesterday, picking four pubs that sold John Smiths Smooth Crap (two of which Alan reviewed). I raised a glass of the muck in his honour in three of them.
