    Default Stockton / Teesside

    Hi,
I'm moving to Stockton on the north Yorkshire and Durham border in a few weeks. Anyone know the area and the places to put on the to-do list?

A new company. I'll be living in the exact spot Thatcher went for her 'walk in the wilderness' back in 1987. Wasn't intentional...

It's an area I know bugger all about. Fancy me turning up for a crawl in the autumn?

Not the most scintillating of areas of course, many in Yorkshire were "a little disappointed" when Cleveland was abolished and part of Teesside returned to the fold. Teesside has its own brand of micropub and the mighty parmo to look forward to. Mrs OB used to live in Stockton and says there are some slightly nicer parts but wasn't keen and says stay away from the rougher estates. Apart from the micro's there isn't much in the way of pubs other than down market drinking barns as far as I know. Think of yourself as some sort of intrepid explorer.

Well as a Salford lad I'd some experience in where not to go and the markers of those places. The town centre reminded me a bit of Eccles with weekday karaoke blaring out at 3pm!

The micropubs look a good start, plus a couple of pubs in Hartburn, Yarm. Looking forward to some exploring!

You're welcome to visit Quino, spare double right next to Thornaby station with good connection to Manchester, Leeds, York and Darlington.

I was in the NE this week and noticed that trains from Middlesbrough go to Carlisle via Stockton, Hartlepool and Newcastle. The Rat Race is well worth a look and past Newcastle the Boathouse at Wylam. Watch the opening hours for the Rat Race and both places have other options. If you just want loads of pubs to visit then Newcastle certainly provides that!
