    Default Leamington Spa

Planning a day out in Leamington Spa.
Apart from the obvious Spoons are there any others not to be missed?

Hi Del, I think the resounding silence from forum members probably tells you all you need to know about Leamington Spa...

It was pretty grim pickings when I visited four years ago and the GK owned Copper Pot or the Cricketers was as good as it got..

The Fizzy Moon Brew Hous, which has opened since my visit, might be worth a look..

    Apologies only just spotted this.

It isn't as bad as all that, but the huge student population means that many outlets are aimed at that market.

First up, two Camra heritage pubs, the Somerville (Everards) and the White Horse (M&B). The former is definitely worth seeking out, but tends to open evenings only. The WH is noteworthy for the original snug and vault, the rest is identikit corporate There's usually a pint of something interesting. You might look at the Hope and Anchor for a very traditional local.

For beer the Fizzy Moon is an obvious choice - their homebrew isn't to my taste but there are other local beers available. It's, er, on-trend, inside but the terrace is lovely on a sunny day and gets mobbed out early . The nearby Woodland is in the GBG with spot on Slaughterhouse, which you might find in the Cricketers over the river too. The two Pugs are OK, as is the Star and Garter (GK). Copper Pot has a reasonable non-GK selection but too much high seating. Bedford Street usually has Hook Norton amongst others.

I wouldn't bother with the Builders, Fox and Vivian, Clarendon, House, Old Library or the standard issue JDW. I haven't been in the Greyhound since it changed hands so a wild card for you. And there are of course many others, some of which I haven't visited in years.

If you visit on a weekday watch out for opening hours oustide the centre - it's not a daytime drinking town apart from the usual suspects in the JDW.

    Hope this helps.

    This will most certainly help!

Now I have some reading to do and I can plan a route!

    Cheers.
