Default Beer of the week 6/6/10

The best Beers of this week was the several Pints Highgate Black Pig I had Monday in Wetherspoons. very good and easy drinkable. don't think any others will beat it this week.

    HIGHGATE BLACK PIG 4.4% ABV
Highgate Brewery, West Midlands. Est. 1899
This dark ale has warming notes of fruit and malt on the nose,
followed by a complex blend of malt, fruit, chocolate and liquorice
on the palate, perfectly balanced by a satisfying, bitter finish.
    Hops used: Fuggles, Progress

Although I will be in a pub on Sunday celebrating a relative's birthday,it's a GK tied house so I might as well nominate a BOTW now ,Yorkshire Terrier from the York Brewery supped in the convivial Corner Pin in Doncaster.

Next week more boating ,with visits to Mexborough and then Sheffield for the first time.May be difficult to decide on next weeks BOTW if the stories I hear about The Steel City are true

Aye Yorkshire Terrier is quite something. I visited there in 2006.

Sheffield is heaven for real ale pubs but I cannot recommended you any pubs as I haven't visited Sheffield for 6 years now.

Only one night out this week (normal friday out cancelled due to wedding aniversary) so limited choice , Salopian Hop Twister , Wood Wheatear , Purple Moose Cwrw Eryi , Coastal Wollandale Black and a special mention to Morton Merry Mount at £1 60 a pint , only 3.6% but tasty , BOTW goes to Wood Wheatear , just right for a warm afternoon

Can you believe yet another week has gone by without a trainman pub visit? Nope, neither can I!
This enforced abstinence has, though, resulted in a 2st weight loss but, boy, could I murder some BEER!

I can't bring myself to nominate another bottled botw.

Had a few good ones this week, Oakham JHB and York Guzzler amongst them. However my BotW goes to Dark Star Festival.

Westerham Brewery's Grasshopper Best Bitter. probably a bit dark to be really popular, but an excellently hoppy and quaffable beer. Who says Wye targets are dull hops?

Well after a week of suffering FP in the form of San Miguel, Cruzcampo, Mahou etc I was desperate to get a decent pint in when we got back.

Landed 19:45, home by 21:40, in the Baum by 22:10, where a gentle 4 pints took the edge off.

So with only 4 to choose from this week I'll go for Summer Wine Epoch, light and hoppy and tasty, unlike that FP stuff!

So it has been rather poor week so I'll go for above...

I Tried several other beers later this week but the HIGHGATE BLACK PIG 4.4% ABV still ended up as my best beer of the week so the HIGHGATE BLACK PIG 4.4% ABV gets my vote.
