Having a day out in Chesterfield soon. Never been before so all new to me!
Apart from the spoons any others not to be missed?

Chesterfield Alehouse , is my favourite but I'm a big fan of micro pubs, The White Swan , I detest the place but everybody else seems to love it I prefer The Market. Near the Alehouse is Tramway Tavern and up the hill from the Alehouse is Chesterfield Arms which as RobCamra says is a good two hander with The Neptune Inn . I thought The Rutland was shite but maybe I caught it on a bad day as others think it's OK . Oldest pub in the place is The Royal Oak and I thought it fine but it does play PubCo ping-pong and may be good, bad or closed at present.

The Royal Oak has two halves, one is a very old building indeed, which may be worth a look in for itself, not so much for the beer in my experience - not badly kept, just run-of-the-mill.
If trying the Tramway, please note it opens at 4pm in the week but if you're going at the weekend this needn't bother you. The other Brampton Mile pubs are mostly not up to much, though you could check out my pub crawl (it's a few years old so don't take it as gospel).
If you wan't to include some out-of-town stuff, the Arkwright Arms at Duckmanton is reachable by bus in about a quarter of an hour (82 or 83 from opposite the Rutland - they run at 15 minute intervals). A proper destination pub, this one. Or you could take any bus going in a Sheffield direction (25, 43, 44, 50 for example) and take in The Spireite, The Derby Tup and The Beer Parlour (though this is another 4pm opener, even on Fridays).

Cheers lads - a few good suggestions there.
I like the look of "the Brampton mile". Might be worth getting a bus to the Star / Peacock at the end and working back to town?

Only if you've got more than one day in Chesterfield! In my opinion, there are far more good pubs away from the Mile than there are on it.
