Rotherham is a bit short of must visits. There's the
New York Tavern with a complete range of Chantry beers, and the
Cutlers Arms across the road, which is owned by the same brewery and has been nicely restored. Don't know what they're like on match days.
Of the two remaining 'Spoons,
The Bluecoat (JD Wetherspoon) is ok. The one in the town centre is likely to be a bit rough. You might like
The Bridge Inn, though the beer selection is nothing to write home about.
If you've only got a couple of hours in Sheffield and want to keep it near the station, you could try
The Howard, the
Rutland Arms,
The Red Lion and the
Roebuck Tavern. Or
Head of Steam and
The Brown Bear (next door to each other). The better ones are further away:
The Museum,
The Tap & Tankard or even
The Devonshire Cat (allow about 15 minutes to walk back to the station).
If you've not been to Kelham Island, it's a good 15 minutes walk to
The Harlequin, then
The Fat Cat and the
Kelham Island Tavern are within spitting distance. Worth doing those three if you've got time to spare. If you do
The Wellington as well you can then get the tram back to the station. It takes 17 minutes, which is only a little quicker than walking but has the significant advantage of not getting lost.
