I assume it is, however its still far too expensive for me at the moment, hoping to catch a deal somewhere along the way.

Have you tried splitting the journey up into chunks? For example, London to Leeds or London to Manchester, then a separate ticket onwards.

Not every angle yet ,but just getting to London one way is £22.00 for starters.

Your best bet would be to see if you can get another day off work and travel up at your leisure on the Thursday. Places like Premier Inn and Travelodge cost around £30-£50 a night if you go for the advance option where you lose your money if you don't turn up. I would have thought it might be cheaper with advance tickets on Cross Country services from Reading.
Huddersfield is probably the best place for beer I've been to this year (the dismal Lloyds No 1 excluded).

Best I've found so far is £37.50 one way on Virgin Trains, splitting the journey adds a few quid.

There are £29 day rtns to Leeds plus £7 rtns Leeds-Hudds but, as ever Mick, it costs brewsters for your route in from the Boonies...

I was looking at a stop over and Virgin currently offer £14.50 one way to Huddersfield from Kings X, as you say the early(40 miles or so) bit and the shortest bit is the crap bit.
As it stands, all in all I'm looking at 75 quid on trains plus 50 - 60 quid to kip, plus beer. We shall see.
