Default Pubs in Isle of Skye & Portree areas

Was in the Isle of Skye earlier this week to check out pubs there. Did the ones in Portree Town. Why are Portree town, Uig, Culnacnock, Edinbane, Flodigarry, Skeabost, South Duntulm and South Portree not included in with the Isle of Skye villages postal district?

Portree and all its surrounding areas are part of Skye after all. Any comments?

Dave would need to confirm it but it's all down to Postcodes which is the way the towns and areas are determined. Portree and the northern part of Skye have an IV51 postcode while the rest of Skye are IV4X. The Post Office calls IV51 "Portree" and IV41 - IV49 "Isle of Skye". I agree it's a bit confusing and would be better if IV41 - IV51 were just lumped together as "Isle of Skye". Don't know if it's possible with the code used on the site.

Just noticed IV55 is Dunvegan and IV56 is Struan, they are listed by the GPO as "Post Town" Isle of Skye and by PuG as Isle of Skye Villages as well.

    From http://www.geograph.org.uk/article/P...nd-photo-album

"The larger islands of Islay, Mull and Skye had multiple post towns (Islay eight, Mull fourteen and Skye twelve). Mull was the first change to a single 'ISLE OF...' post town, in the late 1970s, and this was a precursor to what would happen to all the Hebrides by the end of 2000. (I have not traced an exact date for Mull; there are inconsistencies in the guides published by the Post Office in the mid/late 70s, but they were all listed as separate post towns in 1974 and were all ISLE OF MULL by 1983. It is surely likely that they all changed at the same time.) In around 1980 Skye was changed to ISLE OF SKYE for all previous post towns apart from BROADFORD and PORTREE; BROADFORD followed in 1993 and PORTREE remains a post town in its own right. Islay post towns were changed to ISLE OF ISLAY in 2000."

As far as I can see, the only website on the whole world wide web that uses "Isle of Skye Villages" as a post town is this one...
