A tough choice as there were some outstanding contenders but by a short head BOTW goes to Tigertops Mosaic King, complex ,rich but quaffable and served in top condition in The Craven Arms.

I love Tigertops beers and the brewery is easily my favourite of those in Wakefield. The trouble is, because it's a one man operation, with a brewer who is quite experimental, beers are virtually 'one offs'. I'll keep my eyes peeled for this one, but I'm resigned to being disappointed.

Just a gentle stroll round Leeds, on Thursday evening, this week.

    Rat - Anth-rat.
Yorkshire Heart - Hop Cycle (Waimea).
    Red Willow - Mirthless.*
    Wylam - Collingwood.
    Two Roses - Heron Porter.
    Rudgate - Icebreaker.
    Ilkley - Crossroads.

Easy winner was the Mirthless, a pale ale made with Citra and Simcoe hops. Bags of flavour for a 3.9% beer, sampled at the Midnight Bell.

    An interesting week:

    Slaughterhouse Boar D'Eau
    Slaughterhouse Snout Stout
    Prescott Track Record
North Cotswold Hung, Drawn 'n' Portered*
    TT Landlord*
    St. Austell Proper Job
    Silhill Blonde Star
    Backyard Blonde
    Salopian Oracle*
    Tigertops Mosaic King*
    Wishbone APA
    Howling Hops Ruby Red
    Siren Craft Undercurrent*
    Elusive Pig Pig and Porter*
    Blue Monkey British Ape*

It was a toss up between the Mosaic King, Ruby Red and Pig and Porter until I tried BOTW Blue Monkey British Ape and the decision was easily made. An incredibly moreish IPA made with all British malt and hops. Utterly superb at 5.9% but don't try it unless you're committed to at least three pints as it's impossible to leave alone.

It's the second time I've come across Tigertops in The Craven Arms,Birmingham and the second time I've nominated their ale as BOTW so I just count myself as very lucky
