I know from the inaugural PuG trip to Birmingham* we did The Barton's Arms, The Lamp and The Anchor, can't remember if we did any others.

I haven't been to any! In fact I'm only aware of the existence of three of them.

Although The Anchor was my personal favourite, of those visited, The Barton's Arms is unmissable. What with its fabulous Victorian interior and Oakham beers, it also does, or did, Thai food. What's not to like?

That's a very good list.Been to 5 of them recently and although I've never been in , The Victoria now also looks worth a visit if those are the kind of ales within.

Glad to see the Craven Arms gets a good push, not cheap but worth it.

5/10 for me. The Brum trip was on the 12th November 2010, I looked at the photo taken outside the Barton and some of us haven't aged well

For once I can claim a full 10/10.

To be fair 5 years ago 4 of the pubs listed weren't open. The Post office vaults was the Royal Mail ( shut), Cherry Reds, The Pure Bar and the Botanist didn't exist.

As you know I am by no means an expert "real aler" but that is a good list of pubs - without the Wellington, Joint Stock, Old Contemptibles, Bacchus etc ...

8/10 for me. I'm of the opinion that the Birmingham real ale scene has massively improved in the last few years. The Wellington seemed to be the focal point of the city's scene but I think the Craven Arms surpasses it and is one of the best City pubs in the country right now.
The Anchor is a cracking pub but the Barton Arms may well be the most beautiful pub I've ever been to.
