The same as Kings Head, Kings Head Tavern and Kings Head Inn would all be grouped together as Kings Head.

Just to clarify, New Crown, New Cross, New York, New Zealand, New Moon, New Ton, New Ting are all different pub names and I am suggesting that only the terms INN and TAVERN have been omitted.
Not so in the case of the "Railway". It has two separate listings.

    Railway..........................245
    Railway Tavern.................75

As Moby said, there is only one answer-

    "DAVE!??"

Thanks for letting us know about this. It was great to hear the name on the radio and I'd have not known otherwise.

I think my filter is pretty basic, just clips 'The' from the start of names as well as 'Inn' and 'Hotel' from the ends. I'd not considered 'Tavern' as an option but I probably should, would give quite a boost to Railway.

I don't take into account Welsh names or strip 'Ye Olde' from the start.

    And I fully understand why!
Where would it all end as for example, should the old or new Crown be lumped in with the Crown?
The best advice I ever heard about IT systems or whatever they are called now was "keep it simple".

I'm sure you realise that I was referring to conversations with local people as the word heard implies. In fact if you look at the last printed local CAMRA guide which I think you said you own it is referred to as just the Rose and Crown. I assume Ye Olde came in to the name after it was no longer a Truman's pub.

CAMRA editorial policy is to discard any 'the' or 'ye olde' type prefixes from published content. Which is understandable if sometimes grammatically odd.

The What Pub entry says Olde Rose And Crown as does the GBG so I think they only drop Ye, which makes sense as it's just an older version of The as seen in Carry On films and the like. The same applies to one I went to earlier this year in Wednesbury.
