A great day out in Sheffield yesterday was the basis of this week's entries, with just a nightcap in the Fernandes Tap before heading home. Some great beers.

    Marble - Pint.*
    Alechemy - Citra Burst.*
    Acorn - Winter Pale Ale.
Little Ale Cart - El Citrado.
    Blue Bee - Reet Pale.
    Blackjack - Farmhouse Red IPA.*
    Acorn - Bullseye.
    Welbeck Abbey - Red Feather.*
Little Ale Cart - Old Black Nose.
Little Ale Cart - Dominion of New Zealand.
    Acorn - Gorlovka.*
    Yorkshire Dales - Jingling Sike.
Isle of Purbeck - Thermal Cheer.
    Downton - Quadhop.
    Tigertops- Darkness Rye.*
    Blue Bee - Amarillo IPA.
    Shiny - Pail.*
    Fernandes - Yorkshire Ticker.
    Odyssey - Chocolate Milk Stout.
    Geeves - Red Rye Ale.
    Magpie - Raven Stout.
    Ilkley - The Rocket.
    Fernandes - Octohop.*

A very strong list, but the Farmhouse IPA and Darkness Rye were both superb. The former just shades it.

A reasonable week, some great pints,a few very poor

    Fullers -- Jack Frost *
    A-B Inbev -- Stella Artois
    Fullers -- Bengal Lancer *
    Arkells -- Kingsdown
    Brakspear -- Oxford Gold
    Ringwood -- 4X Porter
    Kite -- Bluestone Bitter *
House Beer -- Gardeners Arms (Almost certainly GK IPA)
    Shotover -- Scholar

BOTW goes to Fuller's Bengal Lancer, served in great condition in The Harcourt Arms,Jericho.

Next week a short tour of Old Town,Stevenage and end of the month action including The Lamb should yield something decent I hope.

A week blighted and limited by serious Man Flu (any ladies viewing this just will not understand).
    Darkstar Hophead
    Darkstar Hophead Vic Secret
    Darkstar American Pale Ale
    Vibrant Forest Citra
    Vibrant Forest Flying Saucer

Having felt a little spaced out through illness ,BOTW is the Flying Saucer, a tangy little number.

A day in Cheshire and a final fling at the Spoons January Sale produced a good list :-

    Dark Star Hophead 3.8%*
    Redwillow Headless 3.9%
    Ilkley Ruby Jane Mild 4.0%
    Wincle Heritage 4.0%
    Magpie Angry Bird 4.0%
    Happy Valley Lazy Daze 4.2%
    Celt Experience Native Storm 4.3%
    Salopian Darwin's Origin 4.3%*
    Twickenham Winter Cheer 4.4%
    Bollington Winter Reserve 4.5%*
    ELB Nightwatchman 4.5%
    Redemption Hopspur 4.5%
    Orkney Dark Island 4.6%
    Adnam's Birra Armada 4.8%*
    Deeply Vale DV8 Stout 4.8%*
    Kelham Island Pale Rider 5.2%*
    Daleside Monkey Wrench 5.3%
    Welton's Hops 'n Heat 5.3%*
    Magic Rock Punchline 5.4%*
Coach House Burns Auld Sleekit 5.5%
    Bollington Eastern Nights 5.6%*
    Siren Liquid Mistress 5.8%*
    Thornbridge Jaipur IPA 5.9%*
    Elland 1872 Porter 6.5%*

There were a couple of real bargains in there, the Jaipur was £1.95 in Stroud Green Road and the Dark Island just £1.79 in trendy Crouch End.
The winner surprises even me as It's Dark Star Hophead (£3.00) tried as a final pint in the Waters Green Tavern in Macclesfied. After several mostly heavy duty offerings it was a perfect "one for the road" before getting the train back to London. It was miles better than in the brewery tap at Partridge Green last summer and is definitely the best pint of it I've ever tried. I can't really come up with a runner up as there are too many to choose from.

    A slightly better week:
    Phipps NBC Gold Star*
    Dow Bridge Praetorian Porter*
    Grainstore Rutland Beast
    Abbeydale Sovereign*
    Hop Back Winter Solstice*
    Oakham Bishops Farewell*

BOTW Phipps NBC Gold Star. Now brewed in Northampton again and not to be confused with Phipps NBC IPA, this is the real IPA deal at 5.2% and, according to the Phipps website, is the original pre-WW1 Phipps IPA. An interesting bit of history but an even more interesting beer.
