Thanks Conrad. I have just started taking photos, and recording crawls, so I am certainly enjoying the site. Love it. Will continue doing my bit.

I only take pictures of pubs that haven't already got any or where the pub name has changed. Mr Mcgraw has blitzed my back yard so I don't need to bother with most places, but there are some that I have suggested that I need to take a snap of as it actually pains me to see a town with pictures of all but one pub.

Photos of pubs round here were pretty hit and miss so i have been trying to fill the gaps in , i admit some of the photos are not that good but at least theres a photo now and i will try and get some better ones when in the area .
Dont understand when someone posts a picture of a pub and ignores the one next door or over the road

I came across this little gem a couple of weeks back. Something wrong with moving a few feet to the right! I'm surprised it hasn't got a bus going past as well!

I am more of a picture poster than reviewer, can't really comment on picture RogerB has spotted, but I do sometimes find trying to get a photo without getting run over is a real pain. especially when trying to avoid sun in lens [I do live on South Coast, and sun always shines here ]

Plus trying to avoid snapping the smokers outside without arousing suspicion

Not sure which is easier sometimes, country pubs where as a one takes photo one sticks out like sore thumb to curious publicans, or in town where cars, vans & buses are forever blocking view

On subject of most photographed, I was surprised as to minimal photos of "famous" pubs, such as Blue Anchor, Helston and Jamaica Inn, Bodmin Moor, just one pic for each

I hope to rectify the Jamaica Inn when I go to Eden project in May, Helston is a tad too far from my intended base

I have some of the Blue Anchor but going back to my original point, they wouldn't add anything of value to the one already on the site.

no we won't reject a picture from one person that is the same as another's, as some people enjoy reviewing every pub in a location, others enjoy photographing them, why should they not be able to post their picture just because someone else has photographed it.

So I say the more pictures the merrier, just means I need to come up with a voting interface and a comments interface so that members can have more fun with the pictures we have. I still would like to make a game on the towns pages where you get shown a random picture and asked to guess the pub, there is some fun to be had here with our excess.
I wouldn't want to put anyone off posting pictures to the site it's only my personal preference not to duplicate existing photo's and to self censor on quality, anyway as you say it's elective to view them all. I certainly wouldn't like to see photo's censored on the grounds of duplication or even artistic merit, (grounds of taste perhaps, unless it's a really funny one ) thoughtful choice of your own photos ought to be enough.

Voting on the pictures sounds good, it might encourage both quantity and quality and name the mystery pub was fun when we did it with one of Running Dogs pic's.

I too am with RogerB, oldboots and delboy on this one. I won't add a photo if it doesn't add any value; if there's a decent one already there why bother to clog up the picture gallery? I took a lovely shot of the Hope in Carshalton yesterday, then when I got home I saw that there was already a good one (by John Mcgraw probably!) from exactly the same spot, and like mine with the sun shining. My shot was no better so I didn't upload it. But I did upload one of The Sun, just round the corner, because the exterior has been repainted and I took the view that my shot did add something. I feel that if too many similar average shots are uploaded, then it could be that the one really excellent shot of the pub is lost in the noise.

And if you do read this John M, this is not a criticism as your photographs are some of the best around.

Now I have started with photos we will get some in May when we are in Cornwall for 3 weeks. We stay near Truro/Redruth so always do the Blue Anchor along with several others as we tour round using twirly bus passes.

Just thought, May is not far away now. Brill...

I'm with you on that. I don't see the point of straight duplication but a different angle, the pub sign, the interior, a lick of paint etc that hasn't yet been uploaded do give an update or a different perspective and therefore a more complete impression. If you are used to approaching a pub from one particular direction (e.g. on a main road) it may not immediately be recognisable if someone has taken a photo from the other side so different angles are useful I think.

There seems to be a few contributors around the West Midlands at the moment and that's probably a good thing because we can't all be everywhere at once and things can change from year to year.
    Waes hael!
