Right, me and Tammy are definitely making this one! Looking forward to my first visit to York since I was 11 years old! Will be staying a couple of nights to investigate a bit.
Just been recommended as worth a look by none other than Mr chemical fizz himself (for those in the know ) The House Of Trembling Madness ! Mixed reviews on here, is it on route and worth a look? 10 out of 10 for the name.

I'm sure others will have their views, but for me this is more a curiosity than a must do. Seeing as our crawl generally skirts the city centre, you'll need to detour slightly to get there. I love it as a bottle shop and quite like it for the bar (think Beer Emporium, Bristol for less quirky equivalent - only two hand pumps here though). If you're really keen to pick up quality Yorkshire bottled beers, go for it. Otherwise, stay with the main crawl and if you want some bottles to take home, you can always grab a few at the York Brewery Tap.
I've now heard from the three pubs on my proposed route which had doubts about their opening times. These have now been resolved: the Rook and Gaskill say they will definitely be open at 12 noon, the Woolpack are in fact opening at 1pm that Friday, though their normal time is 5pm winter and 3pm from Easter, and the Phoenix say they will open early for us as long as the new owners have not made any changes that would prevent it, like sacking all the present staff.
I have therefore done a detailed route with options for those who like to go a little off-piste, but also so that anyone who is planning to get to York a day early, or to stay a day later, can make their own plans to take in the pubs we won't be doing on the Friday. Please see the attached document. Comments are still welcome, and it's quite easy to make changes as there are still several weeks to go until the off.
Cheers
