The Gryphon might be worth a look, especially if we wander up to Colston Yard.

There are a couple of guys on Scoopgen who wander round Bristol and report interesting beers(but may not be interesting pubs) Gryphon, Crown,Small Beer,RNVT,NO1 Harbourside,Beer Emporium and the 3 Tuns.Have we got a local volunteer who can sort out a provisional list.

I've checked this and the cheapest Advance Singles are £15.00 EW. As it's a Friday you can't get this price before 09:30 as far as I know.
The tickets come up around 12 weeks before the journey (I was looking at the 24th October). The general rule is to book through the train operator you're using (in this case First Great Western). NEVER use the Trainline! If you like proper tickets as I do some companies add on an extra quid for postage. You CAN avoid this by booking through Southern Railways, but I found their prices for East Midlands tickets worked out just over a quid dearer.
The First Great Western advance tickets are poor value compared to other TOC prices.

National Express coach currently £10ew (London Victoria > Bristol Coach stn), scheduled at 2hr30 out, 20hr20 back. Probably insufficient savings to lure folk from the train at £30 rtn.

It's always worth checking all options, I have a weekend in Worcester at the end of the month and FGW are quite a bit dearer than other options. Cheapest I can find are through the National Rail Enquiries site who incidentally do not charge postage.
    Ok, maybe just for one......................

Thanks for pointing that site out. I tried London All Stations to Worcester All Stations and it didn't include the option of going via Marylebone to Moor Street (£3.95 EW with a railcard) then discount singles or Day Return to Shrub Hill (roughly £5.50) allowing break of journey at for example Stourbridge or Kidderminster,

http://www.redspottedhanky.com/ is worth a look too, sometimes but not always cheaper and you can get loyalty points.
