A good week for me with a visit to Wolverhampton and a day return West of there.

    Three Tuns Mild 3.4%*
    White Hart Second Half 3.5%
    Sambrook's Archer Mild 3.6%*
    Holden's Black Country Mild 3.7%*
    Salopian Shropshire Gold 3.8%
    Hobson's Best Bitter 3.8%
    Holden's Black Country Bitter 3.9%*
    Otter Seville Bitter 4.0%*
    Caledonian Road To Rio 4.0%
    Thwaite's Magic Sponge 4.1%
    Banks's Sunbeam 4.2%*
    Batham's Best 4.3%*
    White Hart Sweet Porter 4.4%
    Holden's Golden Glow 4.4%
    Rudgate Ruby Mild 4.4%
    Abbeydale Orange Wheat 4.5%*
Titanic Chocolate & Vanilla Stout 4.5%*
    Redemption Hopspur 4.5%
Hook Norton Special Dark Mild 4.6%*
Bespoke Brewing Co Going Off Half Cocked 4.6%
    Black Country Fireside 5.0%*
    Greene King Abbot Ale 5.0%
    Holden's Special 5.1%*
    Kinver Black Ram 5.2%*
    White Hart Hoppy IPA 5.5%
    Celt Experience Bleddyn 1075 5.6%*
    Kinver Khyber IPA 5.8%*

There are enough good ones to warrant adding asterisks. The poorest ones were undoubtedly the World Cup commemorative beers, all a total waste of time. I got the impression that the White Hart brew pub in Whitechapel is not selling enough of their beer. The World cup one was a waste of time, the porter starting to go off and the IPA pretty rank.
The two main contenders are from the same brewery (a new one for me) and were tried in the same pub the Moon Under Water in Wolverhampton. The Kinver Black Ram and Khyber IPA at £2.20 were both outstanding. It's hard to choose between the two but as the Black Ram is more one for a cold winter's night I'll go for the Khyber.

    BOTW Kinver Khyber IPA

Only beers consumed this week were on the Rugby crawl.

    Grainstore -- Metatarsal
    RCH -- Steam Flames
    Blakemere -- Freshly Squeezed
    Dow Bridge -- Ratae'd
    Portobello -- Market Porter
    Blakemere -- Gold
    Oakham -- Scarlet Macaw
    Greene King -- Ale Fresco
    Hook Norton -- Hooky
    Marston's -- Pedigree
    Hook Norton -- Old Hooky
    Abbeydale -- Deception
    Sharps -- Doom Bar
    John Smiths -- Cask

and one other that is impossible to decipher from my scrawl.

BOTW goes to Dow Bridge Ratae'd ,well kept in The Squirrel and an easy drinking traditional bitter.

Next week Slaithwaite and Huddersfield should produce both excellent boating and drinking,I am hoping for a quality BOTW.

    The North Downs
Old Dairy-Tiger Top 4%abv.Last two out of the cask; a bit tired.
Loddon- Gravesend Shrimpers Bitter 4.1%abv.Often ignored by me in the past as not brewed in Kent:a decent workmanlike best bitter with a good hop bill.
Mad Cat-Pow Wow Session Pale Ale 3.6%abv. A new brewery for me,though I've had some in bottle.Lot of flavour for strength. Fruity, nettley yankee hops.Approaching Hophead. My BOTW.

Mostly beers from Rugby but the best was drunk in Knaresborough,

    Wharfebank - Tether Blonde
    Adnams - Broadside
    Hambleton - Stud
    Three Castles - Summer Daze
    Atomic - Strike
    Banks's - Lion's Roar
    Blakemere - Hit & Run
    Tring - Tea Kettle Stout
    Oakham - Scarlett Macaw
    Portobello - VPA
    Hook Norton - Hooky
    Saltaire - South Island Pale
    Thornbridge - AM.PM IPA
    Mallinsons - Columbus
    Box - Tunnel Vision
    Taylors - Landlord
    John Smiths - Cask
Bad Seed - IPA (Dry hop)
    Gt Heck - Citra
    Darkstar - American Pale Ale
    Gt Heck - Porter
    Mallinsons - Nelson Sauvin

BOTW Darkstar - American Pale Ale which I see is missing from the IPA list, surely should be under "good" at least, maybe F**k'n brilliant

Tell us, now, how and when

Again, the selection is largely taken from Rugby, mainly good without ever hitting exceptional:
    Oakham Bishops Farewell
    Green Jack Rising Sun
    Dow Bridge Ratae'd
    Blakemere Hit and Run
    Portobello Market Porter
    Hop Back Taiphoon

The Blakemere Hit and Run deserves a mention as being a brewery new to me producing a beer described as "blond with raspberry". Sounds peculiar, tastes great.
BOTW goes to Portobello Market Porter which was just the comforting ale I needed at the time.

A good week for me. Although disappointed not to make Rugby on Friday, the wander round Sowerby Bridge on Saturday was very enjoyable, with some great beers along the way.

    Shiny - Strong Dark MILD.*
    Rat - James Herbert.*
    Green Mill - Old Git.
Wilson Potter - Bon Don Doon.
    Ilkley - Summer.
    Elland - Ellium.
    Red Squirrel - Conservation Bitter.
    Church End - Stout Coffin*
    Bunces - Sign of Spring.
    Saltaire - Cascade.*
    Slaters - Western APA.
    Mallinsons - Still Gleaming.
Durham - Raspberry Saison (Craft Keg)
    Salopian - Golden Thread.
    Saltaire - Dark Matter.*
    Magic Rock - Ringmaster.*
    Thornbridge - Wild Swan.
    Salopian - Darwins Origin.*
    Newby Wyke - Orsino.
    Millstone - Tiger Rut.
    Fernandes - 10 Degrees.*
    Fernandes - Session IPA.*
    Fernandes - Centaur.
    Fernandes - Hotwired.

Barely a cigarette paper between the James Herbert and the Shiny MILD, but the JH just steals it. Yet another from Rat I could quite happily drink all evening. However, all credit to Shiny. This is the third beer of theirs I've nominated for BOTW, so they're obviously doing something right.
