It's over a year since I felt the need to nominate a BABOTW, but Coco Loco from The Grafton Brewing Co, tried at the Todmorden Beer Festival is an absolute clunker. Luckily, I didn't actually buy it, that unfortunate honour went to 'oldboots', but one mouthful told me all I needed to know. The programme notes described it as 'a dark beer with a hint of coconut and finishing with a bitterness and subtle coconut tones on the palate.' Hint? Subtle? It was like a bag of desiccated coconut liquefied in alcohol. Not only mouth puckering, in its awfulness, but sphincter tightening and toe curling. Yowzer.

Some of their beers can be very experimental. I had an aniseed stout in The Grafton Hotel a couple of years ago. We had a chat with the landlady - apparently she devises the recipes and her husband brews them, then they try them out on the regulars. I'm surprised this one got as far as a beer festival. Yuck!

    Great Orme Ghost Train.

I'm not the biggest fan of Great Orme as a brewery, but this was a stinker.

Looks great, dark, clear and smooth, but then you get hit by a really sour taste at the end of the finish. Yeuk!

Ratebeer says slight sourness, this wasn't slight.

It had to be taken off the bar as everyone was bringing it back.

Even I couldn't finish my pint.

I agree. I can never find a decent Wadworth's pint.

Pity that, as in fact 6x was the first beer that I really noticed as being interesting rather than just beer. This was in about 1972, anyway before A levels. I don't often come across Wadworths now, not travelling to the West Country or frequenting 'Spoons.

Milton Brewery, tried a few of their beers in Cambridge last week at their tap pub and they were all pretty awful.

Totally agree.one of my least favourite breweries. The Pembury in Hackney is tied to them but have guest beers. The guest beers are from some of the worst breweries I know off.I talked to the guy behind the bar who was in charge and asked how he selected the guest beers. They do brewery swaps.Only shit brewers would swap this beer.

Do you mean this place? I thought their Saturnalia was excellent but it was the last pub of many on the day. They've been around a long while and my recollection of them is that they tend to be strong malty beers but this one wasn't. They used to do a few in the E10 King William IV back in the Sweet William brewery days. I would never put them in the same league as the dross Cottage Brewery.
