    British pubs in reverse order:

    95. Wm. Hawkes Hull
    91. Cittie of Yorke Fleet Street, London
    89. Blake Hotel Sheffield
    85. Circus Tavern Manchester
    83. Headrow House Leeds
    81. Lamb & Flag Covent Garden, London
    80. Wellington Shalesmoor, Sheffield
    76. Mayflower Rotherhithe, London
    73. Brudenell Social Club Leeds
    68. Fat Cat Sheffield
    64. Sheaf View Sheffield
    61. Gordon's Wine Bar London WC2
    57. Shakespeare's Ale & Cider House Sheffield
    55. Whitelocks Leeds
    52. Blue Bell Fossgate, York
    50. Nightjar Shoreditch, London
    48. Red Deer Sheffield
    47. Ye Olde White Harte Hull
    41. Cardigan Arms Leeds
    34. Ye Olde Black Boy Hull
    23. Robin Hood Cragg Vale, Hebden Bridge
    20. Fagans Sheffield

I make that 22 from UK, with none at all from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. I can see why a Sheffield journalist would pick up on this, with seven Sheffield pubs among 22 English selections in the Top 100 in Europe. Even more impressive, but not mentioned in the article, is the achievement of James Birkett, owner of the Wellington, Blake Hotel and Sheaf View. They're his only pubs and all three are in the best 100 pubs in Europe.

I've been to 18 in England, and the only one I that I've been to among the Continental offerings is at no.12: Schenkerla in Bamberg, Germany.
Based on that list, I very much share their taste in pubs & bars.

That's because, despite the grandiose name, it's a one man band website chronicling the travels of its owner, one Jack Anderton, rather than the output of some commercial travel guide.

Hence his account of Sheffield here:

I wasn't sure on a brief perusal this morning, but yes, it does appear to be the work of just one person. There is very little that's new since the pandemic - hope he's all right! - the New Additions section has only three from 2020 and just one from last year, with nothing at all in 2022. So basing a foreign trip on this will become increasingly likely to come unstuck.

And it may be interesting, well-researched and I would also say engaging, but any system that walks straight past the Kelham Island Tavern and then comes up with Fagans as the best pub in Sheffield needs to take a good look at itself.

Just found him on Facebook with a post a few days ago, so he seems to have survived Covid.

Yes. The London ones are good (4) and likewise the ones I've visited in Sheffield (2).

4/11 for me: Flask, Grenadier, Jamaica Inn and The Ostrich.

Experienced a couple of strange things while staying at Jamaica Inn, so not surprised it's on the list.

Also just 3 for me Ye Olde Black Bear (many years ago).Genadier and the Flask. Not on the list but locals in Hertford talk about ghostly sightings in the Salisbury Arms of a man's lower body wandering around the hotel corridors ,no torso or head but thankfully with his trousers on.
