I'm not a fan of defining everything, but how do you define close, for example there are some places in Hampshire closer to Central London than some places in Surrey, though obviously they are the opposite extremes of those counties, but nonetheless in them.

But if a word or a phrase has no definition then it has no meaning!
I think that nowadays people tend to refer to London & the South East rather than London & the Home Counties. I don't know if the formation of Greater London with the scrapping of Middlesex had any bearing on it. You still hear of Wembley Middlesex or Romford Essex. Wembley has a Harrow postcode which hardly seems right as it's arguably more important than Harrow.

    Mr Cholmondley-Warner may disagree... but I don't!

NB - Dancing on the head of a pin is an entirely futile, but sometimes enjoyable, exercise so I am not criticising anybody else but myself in the above self-contradictory comment.

Dancing on the head of a pin is easy if you have the right pin!

Apparently he has learnt to slow his heart rate down to prevent shake and has to wait for underground trains to pass before continuing.

Been to 4 from both List 1 & 2 but only one in List 3. The blogger seems to like his canals

On list 1 I've just been to Ashby & Loughborough.
On list 2 I've been to Hinckley, Shirley (just the JDW), Shepshed (over 40 years ago) & Beeston.
On List 3 I've been to Swadlincote (just the JDW), Tutbury, West Bromwich (the JDW & Holden's pub shown) & Coalville (just the JDW).
They seem to have an undesirable penchant for Bass & Pedigree.

I think Mickleover off list 2 and Wirksworth off list 3 is about my lot.

I've been to a couple of places off list 1 but I don't recall venturing into any of the pubs there.
