I'm sure Hull is a bit rough around the edges but I cannot understand why it keeps making those lists over those towns. Even besides the pubs I can think of loads of good reasons to visit the place - loads of standout architecture, historic old town, revamped docks area, big city centre good for shopping/leisure, good sports teams, and mostly very friendly people in my experience. Is it some kind of uninformed snobbery from people that haven't even been there?

Also I can't stand Blackpool but it should be nowhere near that list.

I've only been to Hull the once but agree with you. I probably never visited it before because of the indifferent train services and that around forty years ago it wasn't that great for beer. Other notable towns or cities like that were Sheffield, Norwich & Derby. Why would you go there when there was Nottingham, the Black Country or Manchester all with independent breweries? The biggest fall from grace has to be Henley which I wouldn't recommend to anyone today.

Enjoyed the PuG tour around the city of Hull three years ago, if nothing else it has some decent boozers.

No doubt some of these towns and cities have good pubs but when the pubs close we can go back to our own place. These surveys are with people who live in the places and are better judges on crapness.

    Default Pembroke Dock

It's single track with a passing place at Tenby. Incredibly there are several gateless level crossings where the train has to stop and sound the horn before proceeding. This might seem quaint and acceptable on a preserved Heritage line but on a proper supposedly modern railway is a complete joke. Pembroke Dock rail station is a derelict and run down dump. The old waiting room has been converted to the Station Inn which I liked and deserves better. I would give Pembroke a try but there are other places I would prefer to visit or return to in wales.
Quite an interesting programme about Pembroke Dock on BBC Radio 4 today.

6/10 although as it devotes half the Fat Cat entry to talking about the Kelham Island Tavern make that 7/11.

Some interesting lists of crawls in Scotland here, complete with transport directions. Sadly craft based but no doubt some will have real ale too. I haven't checked to see if we have them all listed yet!

The brewery map is also very interesting. I feel a venture north of the border coming on...
On leaving the bar, I felt a strong blow to the back of my head. Turning round, I discovered it was the pavement

8/10 for me. Haven't done the Bramhall Lane area for years.
