Never been in either the Philharmonic or the Fat Cat Brewery Tap, but my impression from others' descriptions does not lead me to think of cosiness, nor is it my experience of the Wellington, the Marble Arch or the Harrogate Tap.

Of the 29 on the list that I have been to, several are places where you would only feel welcome if you had booked a table and could afford the food and either a taxi or a room too (Blue Lion, Craven Arms, Drunken Duck), so not my idea of cosiness. And the Oxford Bar, a basic backstreet boozer, would only feel cosy for those who like cosying up to famous authors, or the idea of being in the same pub as their fictional characters.

I'm surprised that two Daily Mail hacks found the Free Trade cosy, as it's fairly rough, in my estimation. I liked it, but I'm a little gobsmacked that they do too!

    London:

    E1 - Golden Hart
    E9 - Spread Eagle
    EC1 - Ye Olde Mitre
SW6 - White Horse (though not for about 35 years!)
    W1 - Guinea Grill
    W6 - Anglesea
    W6 - Dove

    Rest of England:

    NR11 - Gunton Arms
    OX1 - King's Arms
    OX2 - Trout

Went to the Guinea the other week for the first time and it may be cosy but it's far from restful. Not been to the Trout since the late '90s and agree that for all the good points, it is a bit of a Harvester with pretensions as mentioned in a review.

In general the posh twat has chosen foodie pubs while the wine twat has chosen more drink orientated ones. I thought the Phiharmonic was more of a youngster's cocktail bar nowadays while the Nutshell is just a tiny GK pub. I thought the Free Trade was really quite basic and if it wasn't for the view it probably wouldn't even be open today.
I went to the Clachaig Inn in 1971 when it was all keg but the Scottish Tartan was much more full bodied than the rubbish in London. I spent a week camped on the massacre site which my Scottish correspondent tells me is no longer there.

The posh twat has picked at least one unbranded Vintage Inn and picked a typical freezer to chip pan dish. Something of a tribute to Brake Brothers and similar. I bet they serve the chips in little metal buckets too.

Of all the cosy pubs in Liverpool he chooses the pompous and aloof Philharmonic, that says it all for me

Perhaps we ought to draw up some official Pubs Galore Top 10s and submit them to the weekend papers food and drink editors?

Doubt they would print many reviews featuring John Smith's Smooth Crap.
