First time I have actually done all on the list, not that it is a particularly brilliant list.

12/17 a mixed bunch of pubs with some strange nominations.

Definitely a strange list but at least it admits to selecting 'pretty' pubs than than quality ones; even the Blue Posts has gone down hill. And I can definitely live without the Hereford Arms, Dickens Inn and Ye Olde Cock.

I have been in a total of five of them, but I wouldn't call any of them the best at anything!

Been in them all I think (although not recently in some cases), and they all certainly attract the eye externally so it's an interesting list in that respect.

Much of the list seems to have been predicated on the 'bushiness' of the pub; they missed this.

It’s my home town and has some outstanding pubs but even I couldn’t justify that statement! Seems like the main factor is how cheap the drinks are.

If you look at the details, it claims that Wigan has "418 real ale pubs", so goodness only knows what they are basing it on. The whole Metropolitan Borough only has 200-250 pubs of any description and that includes such drinking highlights as Leigh.

Seems hardly worth mentioning it isn't even a city...

Oxford comes in at 13 and has drinks prices that can rival central London.

They claim Oxford has 26 bars and pubs per 100,000 of the population, which should mean about 40 for a population of about 160,000. However, there are around 90 'real' pubs within the ring road then around 35 bars, ABOs, 'spoons and independents plus one micro. Because all the pubs in the centre are owned by colleges, they have a maximum opening time of 11.00pm which hardly makes for great nightlife, even though many of the central pubs are excellent. Pubs are open later in Jericho and especially around St. Clements/Cowley Road but really aren't worth it. The Half Moon has the city's latest licence at 3.00am for Friday/Saturday if you're in by midnight. And as for safety, the greatest danger is slipping on a kebab from one of the vans which constitute the city centre's only nightlife.
