I've had a drink at the Inn at Whitewell, Lancashire, and taken photos of two of the others: the Rose & Crown, Romaldkirk, County Durham (according to PuG, but "Northumbria" to the Mirror - an Anglo-Saxon kingdom in the dark ages, or a modern police force but not really a geographical area) and the Olive Bush at Clipsham, Rutland (or Leicestershire according to the Mirror). I have no opinion on their beer gardens, though I did note the presence of the patio garden at Whitewell, but "was content to stay in the room with the view [of the River Hodder], getting my money's worth (£2.10 for a half of Black Sheep Bitter [four years ago])".

How lazy can these 'articles' get? Clearly no pubs have been visited, and they didn't even try to source a single photograph of a pub garden, in a piece purporting to be on... pub gardens!!

I tend to agree, Jim. To be fair, the article was published on 12 April, so before that point they couldn't actually go to any pub gardens! But as you say, surely they could have found a photo of the gardens somewhere. (Mine taken in May 2013 shows a bit of the Olive Bush garden, though not anyone actually drinking in it.)

Just The Cock and The Rose and Crown, Romaldkirk, which is now Co Durham, but historically North Riding of Yorkshire,(I think!).

In both cases Winter visits,so Gardens not noticed or used.
