Default Pubs Galore Top 10 Pubs

See this thread for the origins of this list. (I was hoping to attach the spreadsheet itself, with the raw data that are behind this pdf version, and which would have enabled anyone to tot up the number of pubs listed that they've been to, but I was defeated by the technology.)

Disclaimer: The rankings used are merely for the purpose of enumeration and not to be taken to imply any inherent merit in either the pubs or the people who have chosen them in their top tens.

7 for me all donkeys years ago before gastropubs came into being.

Beehive, White Waltham on the way back from a Brakspear outing
    Red Lion & Sun, N6
Marksman, Hackney was a run down dump, used for CAMRA meetings!
Guinea, Mayfair was one of the Young's 135
Anchor & Hope, SE1 was probably Charles Wells first London pub
Flitch Of Bacon, Little Dunmow was a plain Charrington's pub in Ridleyland
Beckford Arms, Fonthill Gifford a regular on these silly gastro lists!

A big fat zero for me as I believe the PUG County of Bristol is the only one in England and Wales where I have only reviewed JDWs. I think I've said before that the City is a public transport nightmare with just buses and so much traffic that it's liable to gridlock at any time. I hope to rectify this with a leisurely tour of Bedminster which has a rail station and a Spoons.

6/10. Might pocket those others and try and do them this year, as I'm in Bristol every quarter or so.

Default The Quest for the Perfect Pub

This is from the Pub Curmugeon's blog, and quoting from a book from the late 80s called The Quest for the Perfect Pub. At the end of the blog is a list of the authors' Top 10:

Pride of place goes to what they describe as The Perfect Pub, Somewhere in Suffolk, because the licensee did not want the attention that would result from it being named. A little digging based on the description suggests it was in fact The Cock at Brent Eleigh.

    The remaining nine are:

The Cresselly Arms, Cresswell Quay, Pembrokeshire

The King’s Head (Low House), Laxfield, Suffolk

    The Tally Ho, Hatherleigh, Devon

    The Tucker’s Grave, Faulkland, Somerset

    The Olde Ship, Seahouses, Northumberland

The Barley Mow, Kirk Ireton, Derbyshire

    The Double Locks, Alphington, Devon

The White Horse (Nellie’s), Beverley, Yorkshire

The Sun Inn, Stockton-on-Tees, Durham - complete with description of the famous “banked” Bass.

I've been to just three of these 10.

I did once stop for a pint in Seahouses but can't remember which one so it's a big fat zero for me.
