If the train strike goes ahead it could impact the ability for non canal dwellers to attend... some good locations there though BF, have a great week!

Default Four of Derbyshire's finest real ale pubs in one afternoon.

Not quite Belper (see this thread #517), but another trip to the same part of the world. This is pencilled in for Wednesday 6th July, or possibly two weeks later on the 20th, depending on whether anyone gets back to me!

    Holly Bush Inn, Makeney DE56 0RX 13:20 – 14:20
    Dead Poet's Inn, Holbrook DE56 0TQ 14:50 – 15:40
    White Hart, Bargate DE56 0JA 16:00 – 16:50
    Black Bull's Head, Openwoodgate DE56 0SF 17:05 – 18:05

We will be getting trains to Duffield (change at Derby) but returning from Belper, so it's another chance to take advantage of the Derbyshire Wayfarer (see document below for details).

If anyone would like to join us, please reply and say which date you prefer.

A good friend is planning a (2yr) belated 60th crawl around Yerkshire in Jan, taking in a couple of ticks variously in Wakey, Leeds, Osset, Hudds, wants to add Three Pidgeons in Halifax which he really liked on a one-off (very hungover) visit, and to include the WRRR. Next day debrief In Sheff and mop up any missed musts.
Now, I know that's a lot of travel (a poor miles to beers ratio) and will include some taxis, and I would be tempted to skip Leeds entirely but it ain't my gig (he doesn't have the Grove on his list after a disappointing visit a few weeks back!) but, as we are in the area and will be intermittently independently mobile, do any of our regional specialists have any hidden gems to suggest in/around the rhubarb triangle area, which we may ordinarily miss out on...?
    Many thanks, j

I know nothing of rhubarb, but missing Leeds entirely would be exceptionally rude. Whitelocks is a tremendous pub, and I would rate the Duck & Drake not far behind.

Yerkshire? Osset? Pidgeons? Jesus, Jim what had you been drinking when you wrote this! It all sounds a bit loosey-goosey at the moment to offer any meaningful recommendations. Probably need to see a provisional itinerary, at least. However, going on the places you mention and avoiding all the usual suspects, I'd recommend the Banker's Cat in Leeds, Prop'ur Baa and Brewer's Pride in Ossett, County Beerhouse, Huddersfield and Grayson Unity, Halifax.

Thanks Andy, since the question was posted at 12:35 I hope I had only been drinking tea but who knows?
Thanks for that, I was wondering about anything in the (rhubarb) sticks to scoop up while we have transport but will investigate your suggestions with interest.
As we approach Wakey, I'll message you to see if you fancy a local tag-along, cheers matey!

I'm off to Huddersfield today so will visit the County Beerhouse for the first time.

Off the beaten track is a bit difficult for me to recommend as usually go by train myself as well when drinking. However I lived in Leeds 2004-12 and two outside the city centre that spring to mind are the Chemic Tavern half way to Headingley, and the Garden Gate in Hunslet. Hours might be restricted in January though!

    Bristol Mon-Tues.
What would our Western members consider the top 8 or so targets these days, also don't mind travelling 30-40mins out by train or bus, especially if the locale included a good food pub for the Tues debrief.
    Many thanks, jim
