I am a salmon !!
Not exactly fertile hunting ground from what I've been told, so good luck
Are you changing at Temple Meads or Parkway?
Parkway - forget it, nothing within walking distance of any calibre to my knowledge. BTM however has three pubs within a few minutes walk all close together that are good box-tickers:
Kings Head
Seven Stars
The Cornubia
Having visited Bristol from London a few times I'm fairly sure the Swansea trains go via Parkway, you can change at Cardiff I believe or do a shuttle return from Parkway to TM but it will add a lot of time. You can of course get a train from TM to Brum assuming that's where you're heading meaning one way from Parkway. This is likely to be a slower cross country service though.
Ok, maybe just for one......................
My train drops me at Parkway about 12.
I have booked one from Temple Meads back to Brum so I will head over there for a couple of hours.
Is there a bus into town from Parkway or is it best to jump on a train ??
I am a salmon !!
There is a bus but it takes about 45 minutes so you are much better off catching a train if you can
how much in a cab ? Probably work out cheaper for three of us.
I am a salmon !!
Boat loads at least £15-£20 each way, if you were a Blue nose I'd consider picking you up...
I'd consider the Cardiff/Newport change to get to BTM direct rather than BPW prick about getting back into Bristol if a convenient train arrives once you disembark at BPW.
Allow a good 10 minute walk to get to any of the suggested pubs by Quinno to make sure you get your return train.
Hi Del
Swansea is pretty poor for decent pubs unless you like Yates's/Walkabout/Reflex type places. By far the best in the city centre is No Sign Wine Bar which is also handy for The Bank Statement (JD Wetherspoon) a few doors down. These are both on the binge drinking strip, so it will be 'interesting' if you're visiting on a Saturday night.
Other decent options not too far from the centre include The Potters Wheel (JD Wetherspoon) and Brunswick Arms. Brains have opened a new pub on the seafront - The Poets Corner - which might be worth a look. I've also heard good things about Queens Hotel but I've not been myself.
Of course, you could always take the bus down to The Mumbles and attempt the 'Mumbles Mile' - ten pubs along a mile stretch of the seafront (although I suspect a few have closed now).
Have fun.
